Your diet and how it affects ulcerative colitis symptoms.
When I was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis the first thing I asked was how I could change my diet to address my active symptoms. The response was always the same:
“Your diet has nothing to do with it.”
How could it possibly be that my diet had nothing to do with the painful cramping, unpredictable bowel symptoms, and severe bloating I was experiencing??
Maybe my diet couldn’t help the embarrassment and anxiety that accompanied the symptoms but surely it could help me feel better or at least lessen the symptoms.
I was frustrated and depressed; I felt trapped and always needed to know how to find a bathroom at a moment’s notice. I felt isolated, exhausted, and annoyed by the unpredictability of when my symptoms would hit.
I refused to listen to my doctors and took my healing into my own hands. I did my research. I read everything I could get my hands on in terms of using food to heal.
I found a naturopath to help guide me through my healing journey.
My symptoms began to lessen; I felt less restricted and more in control. And, eventually, I healed!
Now, I teach other women to do the same thing so they don’t have to waste any time in finding relief. I educate on the importance of whole food nutrition, daily movement, stress management, and the need for rest and quality sleep. We look at lifestyle, daily habits, and external factors that trigger symptoms and hold my clients back from thriving.
I offer guidance and support and a place for other women to talk about their symptoms and learn how to adjust their diets to begin feeling better.
If any of this resonates with you or if you know of someone who’s struggling, share this with them.
The more we talk openly about it the sooner we can get to healing!
